INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression or anxiety, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge. A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy. Neil uses a collaborative model for individual therapy in which he and the client work together to decide what kind of treatment would be best for the client’s goals and desired outcome. Individual Therapy can help people confront barriers that interfere with emotional and mental well-being, and it can also increase positive feelings such as compassion, self-esteem, love, courage, and peace. Many people find they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware, and they may pursue ongoing psychotherapy as a means of self-growth and self-actualization.
In terms of a specific training in individual models of therapy, Neil has trained and is competent in using Interpersonal psychotherapy, emotionally focused individual therapy, gestalt therapy, transactional analysis, systems theory and radical taping models. He also uses trauma informed therapy models based sensorimotor psychotherapy and solution focused models.
